Sonny is the Chair of the Center for Climate and Sustainable Finance at the University of Indonesia and a Lead Economist at World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia. He led the expert assessment of green bond framework of Indonesia's largest Rupiah denominated green bonds. Sonny was a former fellow at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (UFZ) Germany and current fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) undertaking interdisciplinary research on marine governance in times of climate change. He was senior economist and expert staff for green economy and development data governance at the President's Office under both Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo administrations.
