Integrity first, liquidity second

Carbon Market

Analysis of Indonesia's compliance and voluntary carbon markets — pricing, integrity, registry design and the interaction with Article 6.

Background

Indonesia launched IDXCarbon in 2023 and has been building the regulatory scaffolding for both domestic compliance trading and international cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

The problem we work on

Thin liquidity, uncertain corresponding-adjustment rules and unresolved questions about credit quality keep prices well below abatement costs — which in turn keeps supply from materialising.

Our approach

We monitor price formation and traded volumes, assess methodology integrity, and model how policy choices on caps, benchmarks and Article 6 authorisation shape market depth.
